I had a birthday party at McDonald’s, when they still did those, for my ninth birthday because all the cool kids had those. It’s weird looking back on that; all the people there, I have barely spoken to, or even seen in the past six or seven years. Something tells me they only came for the food…
Every other birthday celebration I’ve had since has been pretty terrible. Mostly because all my friends are from different social groups, and when I invite them all, it’s awkward because no one knows anyone there, and when I invite just one group, it’s awkward because there’s only three people there…

This is definitely the badge I feel I am most eligible for out of all the badges so far. Even though I’ve never actually had any vocal lessons, I’ve been singing, and not badly, since I was about 3. My dad tells me that when he used to watch star trek I used to sing along to the theme song (when I was three) and he was impressed that I wasn’t completely off pitch (like most three year olds would be). Since then I’ve been in several choirs and these choirs have won several eisteddfods. I also won the lead singing role in the school musical last year (not because I can act, because I can’t act, but because I was the only half decent singer). Basically, singing is most of what I do. I’m not actually involved in a choir at the moment, and I’m thinking this has to change. I think I’ll have to start my own. singing with others in harmony is always more fun than singing solo.

I learned bass for a year, in an attempt to improve my reading in bass clef. I remember All Cows Eat Grass and Good Birds Don’t Fly Away, but I can’t seem to put them into practice. Also, we own a bass, that I still play every now and then, but it’s not my main instrument.

I’ve just recently started learning flute again this year. I always wanted to learn it, but when I started found it difficult, and then I got braces, and a friend of mine told me not to learn until I got them off, because adjusting is a nightmare. so last year when I got them off I made the decision that I would try learning again.

I’ve played piano/keyboard since I was about five, but I never got lessons until two years ago and I only just did my grade 2 AMEB exam (got an A+ woot!) I used to just figure out basic chords and things to sing along to, but I thought I should actually learn. I’m studying for my grade 3 exam to do at midyears right now, and I may do grade 4 at the end of the year if I don’t fail grade 3. I don’t actually own a piano, but when I move out, that is my first priority. That, and a soundproof room to keep all my instruments in and record… (because that’s realistic!)

I’ve been learning clarinet for five years now. I joined a learners band in grade 6 and actually started on flute, but that wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be, so I tried something else and fell in love with the clarinet. I moved up through the ranks and now I play 1st part clarinet in the junior band (that means I’m pretty good at it) I’m also playing in the high school production I’m involved with at the moment for the first time. Every other time I’ve been on stage as a chorus member, but acting isn’t really my strong suit.

lexcanroar:

this is literally the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever seen
I have to assume that most of these notes are calling the image out on its ridiculous, moronic bullshit because otherwise … whattttt the fuck
that’s racism and that’s sexism because when you enslave or marginalise or oppress a group of people throughout the entirety of human history because of their race or because of their gender … it’s because of their race or their gender
it’s not “being unkind” when white people tell black people that they’re worthless it’s part of a pattern that has been going on for like thousands of years where white people decided that black people were an entirely other species that they could enslave and kill and rape because they basically thought they WEREN’T human beings and woah guess what, that kind of shit doesn’t just go away, the effects of racism are still everywhere you look
you don’t get to suddenly decide that racism and sexism are over when they’re very clearly not over
… as demonstrated by this image promoting racism and sexism

What this is trying to convey, and what you are saying, are two different things. What it’s trying to say, is that it shouldn’t be okay to talk to anyone like that. We need to stop thinking of people of different race as different. They are just as human as we are. That is half the problem when it comes to racism, we get overly defensive. If I tell you, as a white female, my ‘opinion’ on you, it wouldn’t be considered a massive problem. However, if I’m male and you’re black, now it’s a problem? For me to say the exact same thing I said before? Whether I’m the same or different shouldn’t matter. If I say something insulting, you should find it insulting. It’s like, the majority’s not allowed to say anything mean to the minority. But the minority can say all the crap about the majority they want, because what? they deserve it? I don’t understand
The second image, of a boy saying girls are stupid, an a girl saying boys are stupid. Well, if they really meant it as an insult, they’re both being sexist. But if they’re just joking around about how, yes, they are different, and they find that funny (perhaps a better way of putting it is “heh, girls are weird”) that, needs to be a case by case assessment. But the point is, it shouldn’t matter if a girl says it to a boy, or if a boy says it to a girl, It should be just as insulting/not either way.
yes, it sucks that we did treat people differently, and still often do because they are ‘different’, and that is exactly what this is trying to say. In an ideal world maybe we will treat everyone in the same way we treat every other human being.
just a thought, maybe read it, and read the image again, and think.

Ahh, finally I’m up to music month. I think I’ll get a few here.
you already know I play guitar, well I got a ukulele for my birthday four birthdays ago. It has kept me company and driven many insane on the many school sports carnivals I’ve been to. It’s good because it’s a lot more portable than a guitar, but the skill is pretty transferable so I didn’t have to learn too much to be able to play it. I think the first song I learned for it was Iz’s version of Somewhere over the rainbow/what a wonderful world. I couldn’t really sing along though because it wasn’t in my range…

I’ve always played video games of some sort. When I was little I used to play sesame street educational games, zoombinis, and Madeline games. also I’d make levels on Age of empires and I had a list of cheats for when I played, because I was 6 and found it hard to focus on more than one thing at a time. I’ve since beaten all the Pokemon games up to gen 3 and have caught all 200 pokemon in sapphire (which was the most disappointing achievement I have made, all they gave me was a certificate!) I don’t have any consoles, but who needs an xbox when you have a pc and steam! I haven’t really had much time for games lately though because of school work… can’t wait for the holidays so I can beat Psychonauts.

My high school had a winter sports carnival every year, and apparently, this is a winter sport. Every year I actually did table tennis, but all my friends did chess, because it involved minimal physical activity. But grade ten, when I finally decided to do chess and be with my friends… they introduced computer gaming. as a winter sport. seriously? chess I can understand, but computer gaming? so all my friends did that, while I was stuck playing chess with all the nerds who didn’t manage to get into computer gaming. It was not my favourite day…
